My name is Ryan Edmonds, and I created Ouma's Old Almanac to preserve the folklore, healing traditions, seasonal customs and sacred stories of Southern Africa, before they are forgotten.
Some of these traditions were learned from books and archives. Others were shared with me by elders, healers, farmers, herbalists and practitioners who have generously allowed their knowledge to live on.
Wherever possible, I have sought to honour each tradition within its own cultural context, while also documenting the ways these traditions have met, influenced one another and continued to evolve.
I hope you like it here - and come back to visit from time to time.
