Braucherei and Hexerei are living traditions with different lineages, communities and interpretations. Ouma's Old Almanac distinguishes, wherever possible, between historical documentation, published scholarship, personal experience and living practice.
Some practices may be lineage-specific or inappropriate to reproduce outside their traditional context (what we call "verbot" or "verbode"). Where this is the case, I will say so.
Ryan writes about these traditions from within an initiated lineage, while recognising that one initiation does not make a person the spokesperson for an entire tradition. The purpose here is to share what has been taught, experienced and researched with care, while continuing to listen to the elders and communities who carry these traditions.
