Summer arrives with warmth in her hands. The days stretch long beneath the southern sun, gardens fill with colour, fruit begins to swell on the trees, and the earth seems to breathe a little faster beneath the heat.
This is the season of growth, fullness and abundance. It is a time of tending what we have planted, gathering what is ready, welcoming rain, sharing food and celebrating the generosity of the living world. Across Southern Africa, summer has always been closely watched—the clouds, the winds, the first storms, the behaviour of animals and the changing face of the veld all carrying their own signs.
Through our Urglaawe lens, we explore the celebrations and observances that belong to this turning of the Wheel, while also listening to the seasonal wisdom of Southern Africa: rain lore, garden traditions, medicinal plants, thunderstorms, summer foods, animals, birds and the great abundance of life.
Summer is also a season for being outdoors and fully present. Swim in the sea, walk barefoot through the garden, gather herbs, share a meal beneath the evening sky, watch a storm roll across the horizon, or simply sit in the warmth and give thanks for what is growing.
Come outside. The sun is high, the garden is generous, and there is plenty to celebrate.
Gather what has grown. Share what you have. Let the light fill you.
